evan austin is a 20-something Californian who characterizes himself most generally as a student. He graduated from Santa Barbara City College in 2007 with an Associate's Degree in Graphic Design, but perhaps more importantly evan is an avid student of peace, nonviolence, and democracy, and of the social structures that encourage these things to develop. He is keenly interested in the role of media and popular culture and the way in which those elements shape public knowledge and opinion.

evan believes strongly that a well-educated public makes informed, responsible decisions over the broad range of topics, and so he devotes much of his energy to publicizing truths that he feels are underrepresented and supporting the efforts of others in doing so. evan has only been involved in politics and progressive values since 1998, and his first major protest was in San Francisco opposing the Iraq War. He credits the current administration as one of the most influential forces in his life, by unfailingly showing him exactly what he does not want to be and how he does not want his country to be run. evan believes in the power of the individual, and , and in the tremendous wisdom of government "of, by, and for the people". As director of the Ojai Peace Coalition, Board member of Citizens for Peaceful Resolutions, and as the first editor of ojainews.com, evan's life is enriched by his involvement in building a local community of progressively-minded individuals and forging relationships with some of the the other amazing leaders in his area.

evan considers himself to be a citizen of the world, and his religion is to do good. His strongest guiding principle comes from the wisdom of Gandhi: "we must become the change we seek in the world."

The Ojai Peace Coalition is a diverse collection of individuals who work together in a variety of ways to create a culture of peace in our valley and in our world. Informal and primarily email-driven, with no tedious meetings!
